Do you hold your urine for hours while traveling? Learn about its dangers from an expert

Holding urine for long periods of time while traveling can be detrimental to bladder health, increasing the risk of infection and inflammation. Experts say this habit can also increase the risk of bladder cancer, so it's important to take regular breaks and drink plenty of water.

Do you hold your urine while traveling or staying outside for long periods of time? This habit not only increases discomfort but can also impact bladder health in the long run. According to experts, repeatedly holding urine for long periods increases pressure on the bladder, which can increase the risk of problems like infection and inflammation. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma, medical oncologist at MOC Cancer Care and Research Center, Gurugram, provides this information.

What happens if you hold urine for a long time?

According to experts, the bladder's job is to fill and empty repeatedly. However, when urine is held for long periods, it puts extra pressure on the bladder and is unable to contract properly. This prevents the bladder from emptying completely, and some urine remains.

If this problem occurs repeatedly, it can increase the risk of urinary tract infections and inflammation. Some research has also found that long-term inflammation may be a risk factor for bladder cancer. This risk is especially high in women who already have urinary problems, smoke, or suffer from frequent infections.

Experts say that occasionally holding urine does not directly cause cancer, but making it a habit can be harmful for the health of the bladder.
