Today, Lakshmi-Ganesh Puja is being performed in every household with devotion and rituals. According to the Panchang, the auspicious time (Pradosh Kaal) for Lakshmi Puja is from 7:08 pm to 8:18 pm, while the Nishita Muhurta lasts from 11:41 pm to 12:21 am.

While devotees offer flowers, sweets, and prayers with utmost faith, many unknowingly make mistakes after the puja that are considered inauspicious. These small actions, according to religious belief, can displease Goddess Lakshmi and drive away the positive energy invited during the rituals.

1. Do Not Remove the Idols Immediately

After performing the puja, many people quickly remove the idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha from the altar or start cleaning up. This is considered inauspicious.
According to tradition, the idols should remain on the worship pedestal overnight. You may carefully move or wrap them only the next morning, after offering prayers again.

2. Avoid Alcohol, Meat, or Salty Foods

After Lakshmi Puja, consuming alcohol or non-vegetarian food is strictly forbidden. These items are said to destroy the purity of the mind and body. Even spicy or salty tamasic foods should be avoided, as they reduce the spiritual energy gained from the puja.

3. Do Not Cut Nails or Hair

It is believed that the human body absorbs special positive vibrations during the puja. Cutting nails or hair immediately afterward may disrupt this energy flow and bring negativity into the home. Hence, grooming activities should be avoided on the night of Diwali.

4. Avoid Harsh Words and Negative Thoughts

After the puja, the mind becomes calm and filled with divine peace. Quarreling, using harsh words, lying, or insulting anyone after the puja is said to offend Goddess Lakshmi. Instead, maintain an atmosphere of peace, gratitude, and positivity in the home.

5. Never Send Away Saints or Beggars Empty-Handed

If someone — whether a saint, beggar, or needy person — comes to your door after the Diwali puja, do not send them away empty-handed. Offer food, sweets, or anything symbolic. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi herself visits in disguise, testing the generosity of devotees.

6. Don’t Wash Hands Immediately After Puja

According to religious belief, washing hands right after Lakshmi Puja can wash away the divine energy and prosperity invoked during the rituals. Wait for some time before washing your hands or cleaning up the altar.
