DA Hike Update: Good news for central employees! Dearness allowance likely to increase in July; salary hike will be this much

This is very good and important news for central government employees. Based on the current dearness allowance (DA) trend, a further 2 to 3 percent increase is expected from July 2026. Given rising inflation, this increase could be a significant relief for employees.

According to the latest All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI-IW) data, the index increased from 148.9 to 148 in March 2026. Previously, on April 18, 2026, the central government announced a 2% increase in DA for the January cycle. Against this backdrop, the dearness allowance (DA) hike is likely.

Now, this dearness allowance is expected to increase by 63 percent in the July 2026 cycle. The government is expected to make an official announcement in September 2026. This will directly increase employees' monthly salaries. That is, employees in Level 1 with a basic salary of 18,000 will receive 360 rupees more per month after the 2 percent increase in January 2026. If this increase occurs, this figure will reach 540 rupees. This means that a total increase of up to 900 rupees per month could be achieved starting in January.

Employee unions have made several demands of the government. Manjeet Singh Patel, president of the All India NPS Employees Federation, called for an increase in the annual salary increase rate from the current 6 percent to 7 percent. They are demanding an increase of at least 10 percent in employees' total annual income. Additionally, the demand for a change in the dearness allowance of central employees in the banking sector every three months instead of every six months is also gaining momentum.
