Important information has emerged for central government employees and pensioners. The next two months will be crucial. On one hand, employees are awaiting the central government's decision on the Dearness Allowance (DA) that will be implemented from July 2026, while on the other, the crucial meeting of the Eighth Pay Commission is about to take place. Therefore, employees and pensioners are focused on these two developments.

Will DA hike be announced before Dussehra?

The government has not yet made an official announcement regarding the DA hike for central government employees for July 2026. However, if everything goes as planned, it is expected that the DA hike will be announced by Dussehra. This year, Dussehra falls on October 20th.

Dearness allowance (DA) is revised twice a year. This revision is based on data from the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW). The DA was previously increased by 2% to 60% from January 2026. Now, a 3% increase is projected for the period from July to December 2026. This could increase the DA to 63%. However, the final decision will be taken by the central government.

The Eighth Pay Commission Meetings Are Necessary
It has been almost 10 months since the Eighth Pay Commission was formed. The Commission is in discussions with employee unions, pensioners, and other stakeholders. The upcoming meetings are as follows:

September 9 - Puducherry

September 16 to 18 - Chandigarh

October 7 and 8 - Bengaluru

Following these discussions, the commission can proceed with its recommendations. The final report is expected to be submitted by January, with a final report expected by May-June 2027.
