A fresh controversy has emerged in IPL 2026 as Chennai Super Kings have officially lodged a complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India, alleging disrespectful treatment during their match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 5.
At the center of the issue is a DJ track—“Dosa, Idli, Sambar, Chutney”—which was played during the game. While the song itself is widely known on social media and often used humorously, CSK believes its timing and context during the match crossed the line. The franchise feels the track, along with certain remarks made by the stadium DJ, indirectly mocked their players and created an uncomfortable environment.
According to reports, the complaint has been formally received by the IPL Governing Council and is currently under review. CSK’s management has emphasized that stadium entertainment should focus on supporting the home team, not targeting or ridiculing the opposition.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed the development, stating that the issue was not just about the song but also about additional comments made when CSK players were dismissed. He pointed out that such actions go against the spirit of the game and should not be encouraged in professional cricket.
Interestingly, this is not the first time the song has sparked controversy. Last year, cricketer Jitesh Sharma had sung the same track, which led to backlash from CSK fans. However, the franchise had then stepped in to calm the situation and discourage negativity.
The recent incident, however, appears more serious as it occurred during an official IPL match setting. CSK has made it clear that while fan engagement and entertainment are important, they should not come at the cost of respect for players or teams.
The match itself saw Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeat Chennai Super Kings by 23 runs, but the post-match discussion has now shifted from cricket to conduct and sportsmanship. The BCCI’s response to this complaint will be closely watched, as it could set guidelines for stadium behavior in future matches.
