The midsize SUV segment in India is set for a major shake-up, with several automakers preparing fresh launches aimed directly at the long-dominant Hyundai Creta. Known for its strong design appeal, feature-rich cabin, multiple engine options, and value-for-money positioning, the Creta has continued to lead the segment despite growing competition. However, that dominance is now expected to be tested as Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Renault, and Nissan line up new SUVs by Diwali 2026.
Nissan Tekton to Debut on July 9
One of the earliest arrivals will be the Nissan Tekton, which is set to be unveiled in India on July 9. The SUV will likely be launched a few months later.
It will share its platform and mechanicals with the next-generation Renault Duster, including engine options, but will feature a distinct design inspired by the global Nissan Patrol. This gives it a more bold and premium SUV identity compared to its sibling.
The Tekton is expected to use the RGMP platform and may come with:
- 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine
- 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine
However, it is not expected to get a strong hybrid option.
Maruti Grand Vitara Facelift
Maruti Suzuki is preparing a refreshed version of the Grand Vitara, expected in 2026. The facelift will bring minor design updates and new feature additions while retaining its existing engine lineup.
Current powertrain options include:
- 1.5-litre mild hybrid (103 bhp)
- 1.5-litre strong hybrid (115 bhp)
Transmission options will continue as:
- 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic for mild hybrid
- e-CVT for strong hybrid
The update will focus more on refinement and feature enhancement rather than mechanical changes.
Honda Elevate Facelift
The Honda Elevate is also set for its first major update around Diwali 2026. The facelift will include subtle design revisions at the front and rear, along with upgraded interior features.
The SUV will continue with its existing:
- 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 121 bhp
- 6-speed manual transmission
- 7-speed CVT automatic
Honda is expected to focus on improving cabin comfort, technology, and overall premium feel.
Renault Duster Hybrid Returns with Power Boost
The much-anticipated Renault Duster Hybrid is expected to re-enter the Indian market around Diwali 2026, built on the RGMP platform.
It is likely to feature a new:
- 1.8-litre hybrid engine producing around 160 bhp
This would make it significantly more powerful than hybrid SUVs currently offered by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota, giving it a strong performance advantage in the segment.
Bottom Line
With multiple launches and updates lined up, the midsize SUV segment is heading into a highly competitive phase. While the Hyundai Creta continues to hold its strong position, upcoming models from Maruti, Honda, Renault, and Nissan are expected to intensify the battle with new designs, updated features, and more advanced powertrains by Diwali 2026.
