This issue has seen tension between the two countries for many years. In the year 2020, there was tension between the two countries on this issue.

Regarding the new map on the note, the spokesperson of the Central Bank of Nepal (NRB) has said that the map was already there in the 100 rupee banknote. It has been changed as per the government's decision. He said that among the banknotes of different denominations like 10, 50, 500, only the 100 rupee currency note has the map of Nepal.

Nepal created controversy by issuing a map in May 2020, through a constitutional amendment, claiming Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani as its territory. However, these areas are entirely part of India.
