Bonus: During the festive season, the Modi government at the center has given its employees a Dussehra gift. The government has announced a productivity-linked bonus equivalent to 30 days' salary for Group C and non-gazetted Group B employees. The government clarified that this bonus for central employees has been fixed for 2024-25 and will amount to ₹6,908.

Who will benefit

According to a statement issued by the Finance Ministry on Monday, the bonus will be given only to employees who have served for at least six consecutive months as of March 31, 2025. If an employee has not served for the full year, the bonus will be paid on a pro-rata basis. This means the bonus will be calculated based on the number of months served. The bonus amount will be rounded to the nearest rupee.

CAPF and paramilitary forces also benefit

The benefits of this bonus scheme will not be limited to those working in central ministries and departments. Eligible employees of the Central Armed Forces (CAPFs) and the Armed Forces will also receive this benefit. Furthermore, employees working on the central government pay structure that are not eligible for any other type of bonus or ex-gratia will also be eligible for this bonus.

Bonus to ad-hoc and casual laborers as well

The government has also clarified that not only permanent employees but also some temporary workers will benefit from this. Ad-hoc employees whose service has been uninterrupted will also receive a bonus. Casual laborers who have worked a specified number of days in the past three years will also receive a bonus. The bonus amount for these workers has been set at ₹1,184.

Retired, resigned and deceased employees

The bonus rules also state that employees, who retired, resigned, or passed away before March 31, 2025, will only be eligible if they have served for at least six months. Those who have served less than six months will be excluded from this benefit. Employees working on deputation to other organizations will receive the bonus from their current organization.

How will the bonus be calculated?

The government has calculated the bonus using a fixed formula. The calculation is based on a maximum monthly salary of ₹7,000. For example, ₹7,000 × 30 ÷ 30.4 = ₹6,907.89, which has been rounded to ₹6,908. This amount will be distributed equally to all eligible employees.

Why is this bonus special?

This government decision will provide significant relief to millions of families during the festive season. A lump sum payment to employees will make it easier to meet additional expenses during the festive season. This bonus will not only provide relief to employees but will also boost market demand. Additional income during festivals like Dussehra and Diwali will bring joy and excitement to families.

How many employees will get the benefit?

According to the Finance Ministry, this decision will directly benefit millions of central government employees and security forces personnel. This will increase their purchasing power and may lead to a surge in consumption during the festive season. This amount will be a significant relief, especially for middle-class and lower-income employees.
