The death of a 40-year-old female teacher under suspicious circumstances has shocked Vizianagaram district, with police investigating whether it was a case of suicide or murder.

The deceased, Sunkari Madhavi Devi, was a resident of Bobbili and worked as a mathematics teacher at a private school. She was found dead at her home, triggering widespread concern and grief among locals, students, and school staff.

Madhavi Devi had married Naresh, a car driver, after a long relationship that began 16 years ago. The couple had two children, both studying in Classes 9 and 10. According to family members, the marriage had been stable for many years, but tensions reportedly grew in recent months.

Relatives allege that Naresh had become increasingly suspicious of Madhavi, particularly over phone calls she received from school staff and parents. It is claimed that arguments often occurred after he consumed alcohol.

Last Night Raises Questions

On the night of the incident, Madhavi reportedly returned home with her children from a relative’s house around 9:30 p.m. She later spoke to her mother on the phone and discussed plans to attend a festival in Rajam the following day. Shortly after, she posted a school-related update on her WhatsApp status.

Following the status update, some school staff members reportedly called her regarding salary-related matters, and the conversation was said to be normal. Investigators are now examining whether any phone call that night led to a dispute at home.

The next morning, Madhavi’s brother Kishore received a call from Naresh informing him that she had died. She was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Madhavi’s father has filed a complaint accusing Naresh of mental and physical harassment. Police are now probing multiple angles: whether Madhavi died by suicide due to stress, whether she was killed during a domestic altercation, or whether events from the previous night triggered the incident.
