Blood pressure is an important indicator of the health of our heart and nerves. Its correct reading helps in understanding the condition of your body and preventing serious diseases. But often small negligence can show wrong BP measurement. To get correct results and detect the problem in time, it is very important to keep some important things in mind.
Blood Pressure Checking Tips: Blood pressure (BP) is a way to measure the strength of blood flow and heart rate in our body. When the heart pumps blood, it puts pressure on the walls of the veins, which is called blood pressure. There are two measurements of BP, systolic i.e. upper pressure and diastolic i.e. lower pressure. Under normal circumstances, it keeps the functioning of the body balanced. But if it continuously becomes too high (high BP) or too low (low BP), then it increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney damage and other serious diseases. That is why it is very important to get BP checked from time to time so that the problem can be detected and treated in time.
Normally, the blood pressure of a healthy person should be around 120/80 mmHg. In this, 120 indicates systolic and 80 diastolic pressure. If it becomes 140/90 mmHg or more, then it is considered high blood pressure, while if it is less than 90/60 mmHg, it is called low blood pressure. BP level can be affected by many reasons such as unhealthy eating habits, excessive salt intake, obesity, lack of physical activity, stress, smoking, alcohol consumption and lack of sleep. Apart from this, genetic reasons and increasing age also affect blood pressure.
Keep these things in mind while getting your BP checked
Some important precautions should be followed to ensure that the BP test is correct and accurate. Do not consume tea, coffee, cigarettes or alcohol at least half an hour before the test, as these can affect your BP readings. Avoid any kind of physical exertion, running around or stress just before getting your BP checked and give yourself rest. Sit straight during the test, do not cross your legs and keep your hands in a relaxed position. The arm should be kept at the height of the heart so that the machine can record the correct pressure. Often people continuously measure BP with just one hand, but it is also important to check with both hands from time to time. Apart from this, if the doctor has said, then BP readings should be taken at different times in the morning and evening so that the correct result can be obtained. Checking from time to time shows whether the medicines or lifestyle changes are working or not.
This is also necessary
Before the test, take deep breaths and relax yourself.
BP machine should always be calibrated and reliable.
Do not be satisfied with one reading; at least check it again.
Contact your doctor immediately for any abnormal readings.
Use a BP monitor at home, but keep consulting a doctor.
