In light of tensions in the Middle East, the Modi government has taken a major decision regarding petrol and diesel. The government has taken this important decision regarding the sale and distribution of fuel in the country. The government has further tightened the rules for purchasing large quantities of industrial petrol and diesel from petrol pumps in the country. According to a new notification issued by the government, a new ban has now been imposed on the sale of 'motor spirit' (petrol) and 'high-speed diesel' (HSD) from retail outlets. According to these new rules, no vehicle or customer will be able to purchase more than 200 liters of 'high-speed diesel' from a petrol pump in a single day. Additionally, commercial and institutional customers have been prohibited from purchasing fuel directly from retail petrol pumps. They have been instructed to fulfill their needs through 'bulk sale points'. This arrangement will initially be in effect for the next 90 days.
Rules changed for commercial customers
According to the new guidelines, commercial customers will no longer be able to purchase fuel from regular retail petrol pumps. The government has issued clear instructions that these commercial customers should only purchase their petrol or high-speed diesel from their own "consumer pumps."
Only 200 liters of petrol will be available in a day
Petrol pump operators have been given strict instructions; as part of this, this notification clearly states that no more than 200 liters of 'high-speed diesel' should be sold to any single customer or vehicle in a single day. Since a typical car's fuel tank capacity is much less than 200 liters, this scheme will not have a significant impact on the daily lives of ordinary car owners. However, it will primarily impact those who transport diesel in large drums for heavy trucks or generators. Furthermore, reselling this 'high-speed diesel' is strictly prohibited under any circumstances.
The new system will be in effect for 90 days.
This new fuel sales system has been initially implemented for 90 days. This means that these strict rules regarding fuel sales at petrol pumps will remain in effect for the next three months. However, the government notification also clarifies that if the government deems it appropriate, these restrictions can be lifted by issuing a new order before the 90-day period ends.
