A tragic incident from Betul district in Madhya Pradesh has left a family devastated after a young man was beaten to death while attempting to stop a fight between children playing cricket.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening in the Kattaldhana area under the jurisdiction of Ganj Police Station. According to police, a group of children were playing cricket in a large open field when an argument broke out between two groups. The dispute soon escalated, leading to stone-pelting.
Concerned about the safety of the children playing nearby, Mohit Gohe’s wife reportedly asked him to intervene and calm the situation. Acting on her request, 27-year-old Mohit reached the spot and tried to pacify the children and those involved in the argument.
However, the situation took a violent turn when two young men allegedly began arguing with Mohit. When he objected, the accused reportedly attacked him with cricket bats and sticks. Mohit sustained severe head injuries and collapsed at the scene.
Family members rushed him to a private hospital, but as his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Bhopal for advanced treatment. Mohit Gohe succumbed to his injuries on Monday while undergoing treatment.
Mohit’s wife, Preeti Gohe, said the children were fighting during the game and she had asked her husband to intervene to prevent anyone from getting hurt. She stated that he was assaulted shortly after he tried to reason with those involved.
Mohit had been married for two years and worked as a clerk with the Housing Board. He is survived by his wife, an infant son, and other family members. Police have registered a case against two accused, identified as Deepak and Puneet, and efforts are underway to locate and arrest them.
