A major security lapse at the Ayodhya district jail has come to light after two inmates escaped late at night, prompting the suspension of seven officials, including the jail superintendent.
How the Escape Happened
The escaped prisoners have been identified as Golu Agrahari (alias Suraj Agrahari) from Amethi and Sher Ali from Sultanpur. Golu was serving a sentence for attempted murder, while Sher Ali was in judicial custody for rape charges.
According to reports, the inmates broke the wall of their barrack, climbed over the boundary wall, and fled under the cover of darkness. The daring escape exposed serious gaps in the jail’s security protocols, leaving the administration in a state of panic.
Immediate Action Taken
Following the escape, DIG Prisons S.K. Maitriye personally visited the jail to oversee the investigation. Multiple police and prison teams were deployed to track the fugitives, and vigilance has been heightened at district borders to prevent them from fleeing further.
As a result of the breach, seven officials, including the suspended superintendent, are facing disciplinary action for negligence. The investigation is ongoing, focusing on lapses in security arrangements, staff accountability, and possible internal collusion.
Search for the Inmates Continues
The hunt for the escaped prisoners remains active, with authorities confident that the inmates will be tracked and apprehended soon. This incident has sparked concern over prison safety in Uttar Pradesh and raised questions about measures in place to prevent such audacious escapes.
