ATM: How many times can you withdraw cash from an ATM for free? What are its other rules? Learn more

Although people have significantly reduced their ATM withdrawals these days, they still have to withdraw money when needed. For this, you have to go to the ATM. But many times, people wonder: can you withdraw money from an ATM as many times as you want in a day? Or is there a limit on cash withdrawals? If you have such questions, it's important to understand the bank's rules first.

What are the rules
? There are two limits on cash withdrawals from ATMs. The first is the daily cash withdrawal limit and the second is the monthly free transaction limit. These two rules are different, so it's important to understand them.

How many times can you withdraw cash?
Bank ATMs typically don't have a daily cash withdrawal limit. This means you can withdraw as many times as you want in a day. However, there's a limit on how much you can withdraw. For example, if your debit card's daily cash withdrawal limit is ₹50,000, you can only withdraw ₹50,000 in one day, or even 10 times in total.

How many free transactions are there?
Apart from the daily limit, there is also a limit on the number of free ATM transactions per month. Generally, you get 5 free transactions per month at your own bank's ATM. At other bank's ATMs, you get 3 free transactions in metro cities and 5 free transactions in non-metro cities. These free transactions include not only cash withdrawals but also services like balance check and mini statement. If you make ATM transactions beyond the limit, the bank charges for every extra transaction. As per the current rules, the fee is Rs 23 per transaction.
