Assam Horror: Woman Allegedly Gang-Raped in Front of Fiancé on Silchar Bypass, One Arrested

A shocking incident of sexual violence has been reported from Silchar in Assam, where a 28-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by a group of men while out on a drive with her fiancé. The accused also allegedly robbed and extorted money from the victim.

According to the complaint, the incident took place on the night of February 19 on the Ramnagar Bypass Road. The woman and her fiancé were on a long drive when their car was reportedly stopped by a group of around seven men.

The assailants allegedly dragged the woman out of the vehicle, held her fiancé at knifepoint, and sexually assaulted her. After the assault, the accused are said to have extorted money from the victim by forcing her to transfer ₹10,000 digitally and also took cash she was carrying. In total, around ₹20,000 was allegedly robbed.

Police Action

Police officials confirmed that the victim has undergone a medical examination and her statement has been recorded before a magistrate. One of the main accused has been arrested, while raids are ongoing to trace and arrest the remaining suspects.

Authorities have assured that the case is being investigated with utmost seriousness.

Public and Political Reaction

The incident has triggered widespread outrage across Assam, particularly in Silchar. Many citizens have taken to social media demanding strict punishment for those involved.

Several political leaders have also condemned the crime. Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev called the incident “deeply disturbing” and urged the Home Department to ensure swift and exemplary action against the accused.
