A chilling case of domestic violence turned fatal in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district, where a man brutally killed his wife after returning home days after she had filed a police complaint against him.

The victim, Usharani (45), was married to Vemagiri Manikyam nearly ten years ago. The couple lived in Konthamuru, under Rajanagaram police station limits, along with their two children—a 9-year-old son, Nihant, and a 7-year-old daughter, Nissi.

Left hometown for love, but doubts tore the marriage
After their wedding, Manikyam had left his native village Gidugutur in Narsipatnam Mandal to live with Usharani at her parental home in Rajamahendravaram. He worked as a welder to support the family.

However, things started to unravel as Manikyam grew increasingly suspicious of his wife’s character. His growing mistrust led to frequent fights, and he reportedly mentally and physically tortured Usharani. Unable to bear the abuse, she finally approached the Rajanagaram police and lodged a complaint.

Murder after returning from disappearance
Following the complaint, Manikyam left the house and remained missing for a few days. But on Saturday night, he unexpectedly returned. An argument broke out between the couple, and in a fit of rage, Manikyam picked up a stone and struck Usharani on the head.

The attack proved fatal. Their children, who witnessed the horror, ran to their grandmother’s house nearby. She rushed over and helped shift Usharani to the hospital, but it was too late. Doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Police investigation underway
Based on a complaint by the victim’s mother, Lakshmi, police registered a case and have begun an investigation into the matter. The shocking incident has once again brought to light the grave consequences of unaddressed domestic abuse.
