Amazon-Flipkart Sale Alert: How to Check If Your Smartphone Is Genuine Using Government Portal

With the festive season approaching, Amazon and Flipkart have announced lucrative sales attracting buyers eager to purchase smartphones at discounted prices. However, there have been frequent reports of customers receiving fake, used, or non-functional smartphones during these sales.

To avoid falling victim to such scams, consumers can verify the authenticity of their smartphones through the government’s Sanchar Saathi Portal. Each mobile device is assigned a unique 15-digit IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number, which can be checked on this official website.

Here’s how buyers can verify their smartphones:

  1. Visit the official Sanchar Saathi website at https://sancharsaathi.gov.in

  2. Click on the “Situation Centric Service” option on the homepage.

  3. Select the “Know Your Mobile / IMEI Verification” option.

  4. Enter the CAPTCHA and mobile number to receive an OTP (One-Time Password).

  5. Submit the OTP and enter the 15-digit IMEI number of the smartphone.

  6. The portal will then display details of the device including its status, brand, model, type, and manufacturing information.

This convenient verification method helps customers confirm whether their purchased smartphone is genuine, protecting them from scams prevalent during online sales. It’s advised to check the IMEI number right after purchase to ensure authenticity and avoid future issues.
