A disturbing incident has been reported from Alwar, where a man allegedly attempted suicide by self-immolation after his wife and four children went missing. The man suffered around 90% burn injuries and has been referred to Jaipur in critical condition.

What happened

The incident occurred near the Ganga Temple area at Delhi Darwaza, where the man’s in-laws live. According to police, the man poured a flammable substance on himself and set himself ablaze. He was rushed to a local hospital and then shifted to Jaipur due to the severity of his injuries.

The injured has been identified as Ravi Kumar alias Pushpendra, son of Amarsingh Jatav, originally from Ranjit Nagar and currently residing in Dhuni Nath Ki Bagiji under the Bagad Tiraha police station limits. The incident took place around 1 pm on Wednesday.

Wife missing for over a month

Police said Ravi’s wife, Jyoti, left home about one and a half months ago. Ravi had filed a missing person report at the Bagad Tiraha police station. The couple has four children—two sons and two daughters, the youngest being four years old. Ravi works as a tempo driver.

At the time of the incident, Ravi’s mother-in-law was reportedly away with family members to celebrate Sankranti at her other daughter’s in-laws’ home.

Allegations from in-laws

Jyoti’s brother Manoj alleged that Ravi used to assault Jyoti regularly, following which she left home. He claimed Ravi repeatedly pressured the family to reveal Jyoti’s whereabouts and had threatened to set himself on fire if they did not comply.

Jyoti’s sister Mamta echoed the claim, stating that Ravi had earlier come to their house and issued similar suicide threats to their mother.

Police action

The case is being investigated by Akhaipura Police Station. Statements from family members are being recorded, and police say further action will depend on the victim’s condition and the ongoing inquiry.
