Long before Akshay Kumar became one of Bollywood's most bankable stars, he had already started experiencing the perks of fame. Not many know that even before the release of his debut film 'Saugandh' in 1991, fans were already approaching him for autographs—mistaking him for a hero just by seeing him on set.
In a candid interview with film critic Taran Adarsh, Akshay recalled the surreal moment from 1990 while shooting in Ooty. “Someone saw the shoot and assumed I was the hero. They came and asked for my autograph,” he laughed. That moment, even before the cameras had rolled on his film career, stayed etched in his memory.
From Bangkok to Bollywood: Akshay's Humble Start
Before stepping into the limelight, Akshay wore many hats—lightman, waiter, chef, and martial arts trainer. He spent part of his early life working in Bangkok, honing his discipline and resilience. His screen journey began with a blink-and-miss appearance as a karate instructor in the 1987 film Aaj, lasting just 10 seconds.
Four years later, he made his official debut with Saugandh, and the rest is history.
What’s Next for Khiladi Kumar?
After delivering films like ‘Sky Force’ and ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ earlier this year, Akshay is currently winning hearts with ‘Housefull 5’, directed by Tarun Mansukhani. Released on June 6, the comedy caper is raking in impressive numbers at the box office.
