During the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a sharp attack on the Modi government over the recent Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 civilians were killed. She questioned the government's accountability and raised concerns over national security failures.

“Who Is Responsible for the People’s Safety?”

Priyanka asked, “Who is responsible for ensuring the safety of Indian citizens? Is it not the duty of the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Defence Minister, and NSA?” She compared the current government's response to the Mumbai 26/11 attacks, where both the then Chief Minister and Home Minister resigned, asking, “What happened after Pahalgam?”

“No Accountability, Only Publicity”

She accused the government of dodging questions and avoiding accountability, saying, “This government has no place for the people in its heart—only politics and publicity matter.” Highlighting the lack of security in Baisaran Valley during the attack, she said, “All MPs here enjoy security, but 26 innocent people died in front of their families without any protection.”

"My Mother's Tears Were for Her Husband, I Understand That Pain"

Referring to Home Minister Amit Shah’s comment about Sonia Gandhi's tears, Priyanka responded emotionally: “Yes, my mother cried when my father was killed by terrorists. Today, I speak about Pahalgam victims because I understand their pain deeply.”

“No Answers on Ceasefire”

She criticized the Home and Defence Ministers for evading key questions, especially on the ceasefire with Pakistan after Operation Sindoor. “Instead of explaining the ceasefire, the Home Minister gave a history lecture—from Nehru to my mother's tears—but avoided the real issue,” she said.

“Why Was There No Security at the Site?”

Priyanka demanded to know why no security forces were present in the valley at the time of the attack. She accused the government of allowing terrorists to strike and then offering refuge, asking, “Why was refuge given to those who kill our citizens?”

Her speech highlighted growing concerns over internal security, government transparency, and the politicization of national tragedies—turning the spotlight back on the administration’s handling of terrorism and public safety.
