Due to the increasing heat, we keep the AC running all day long. Some people, even though they are away at work all day, use the AC at night. We turn off the AC when we wake up the next morning. This is a serious matter.
A devastating fire broke out in the Vivek Vihar area of Delhi, unfortunately resulting in the death of nine people. It's suspected that a malfunctioning AC unit was the cause. Similar incidents have occurred before. So, what precautions should we take? We're going to learn about that.
ACs contain plastic parts, wiring, and various electronic components. If there's a technical fault or overloading, it can spark a fire. Once a fire starts, smoke can fill the room within seconds. Sometimes, the room is completely sealed off for better cooling, but this can be fatal.
When smoke accumulates in a closed room, oxygen is depleted. This can lead to suffocation from toxic gases like carbon monoxide. Sleeping people may not even notice this, and the situation can escalate within minutes. Therefore, have your AC serviced on time. Pay attention to old wiring and overloading.
It's also crucial to install a fire alarm or smoke detector in your home. These devices provide immediate warnings when smoke or fire is detected, allowing you to escape in time. Having a device like a fire safety ball in your home can also be beneficial. The ball activates automatically and extinguishes the fire.
