AAP Leader Shot Dead Outside Gurdwara in Jalandhar, Police Launch Probe

Panic gripped parts of Jalandhar on Tuesday after Lucky Oberoi, a local leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was shot dead in a public place in the Model Town area. The incident occurred outside a gurdwara, where Oberoi had gone to offer prayers.

According to initial information, Oberoi was hit by multiple gunshots, reportedly five, while he was getting into his vehicle after paying obeisance. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Area Sealed, Security Tightened

Following the incident, police cordoned off the area and increased security arrangements. Senior officers reached the spot, and forensic teams were called in to collect evidence. CCTV footage from the gurdwara premises and nearby roads is being examined to identify the attackers and reconstruct their escape route.

Eyewitness Account

An eyewitness said Oberoi visited the gurdwara daily and had followed his usual routine on the day of the incident. “He had just finished prayers and was entering his car in the parking area when he was shot,” the witness said. The eyewitness added that while the exact number of assailants was unclear, reports suggest two miscreants arrived on a scooter and opened fire.

Police Investigation Underway

A police officer at the scene said that information about a firing incident in Model Town was received in the morning, following which teams were dispatched immediately. “Preliminary investigation indicates the attackers were on a two-wheeler. All angles are being examined,” the officer said, adding that efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused.

Political Background

Lucky Oberoi was associated with the Aam Aadmi Party and was considered close to party leaders in the Jalandhar Cantonment area. His wife had previously contested municipal elections on an AAP ticket. The incident has caused shock among party workers and local residents.
