Aadhaar-related work is becoming easier for users as UIDAI continues to expand its digital services. Instead of visiting an Aadhaar centre for every small update, users can now access several important services through the official Aadhaar mobile application.
The updated Aadhaar app allows users to perform services such as mobile-number and address updates, biometric locking and unlocking, downloading e-Aadhaar, checking authentication history and tracking update requests.
What can you do through the Aadhaar app?
The new app has been designed to bring several Aadhaar services together in one place. After registering with Aadhaar details and completing face authentication, users can access available services directly from their phone.
Some of the important facilities include:
- Updating your mobile number
- Updating your address
- Locking and unlocking Aadhaar biometrics
- Downloading e-Aadhaar
- Checking authentication history
- Tracking Aadhaar update requests
- Sharing Aadhaar-related verifiable credentials
This can be particularly useful for people who have moved to a new city or need to update their registered mobile number.
Email update can also be done through the app
UIDAI has also introduced a temporary fee waiver for updating an email address through the Aadhaar mobile application.
According to UIDAI's official notification, charges for this service have been waived until December 31, 2026.
Therefore, people who need to add or update their email address can use the official app during this period instead of paying the applicable fee.
You can check your Aadhaar update status online
After submitting an update request, you don't necessarily need to repeatedly visit an Aadhaar centre to find out whether the change has been completed.
UIDAI provides facilities to track Aadhaar update requests. The acknowledgement or enrolment details provided during the update process can be used to check the status.
Aadhaar number does not change after an update
One common concern among Aadhaar holders is whether updating personal information will result in a new Aadhaar number.
The answer is no.
UIDAI states that the Aadhaar number remains the same even after updating details.
So, if you update your address, mobile number or other permitted information, your existing 12-digit Aadhaar number continues to remain unchanged.
What about document updates?
UIDAI has also extended the relaxation in charges for document updates through the myAadhaar portal until June 14, 2027.
This facility can be useful for Aadhaar holders who need to refresh their proof-of-identity or proof-of-address documents.
Be careful while updating Aadhaar
Aadhaar is an important identity document, so users should avoid giving their Aadhaar number, OTP or other personal information to unknown agents or websites.
Always use official UIDAI services and the official Aadhaar app for updates. UIDAI's website also provides information about authorised Aadhaar enrolment and update services.
Check your Aadhaar details today
If your mobile number, email address or residential address has changed, it is a good idea to check whether your Aadhaar information is still up to date.
With more services now available digitally, many routine Aadhaar-related tasks can be completed more conveniently from your phone without making an unnecessary trip to an Aadhaar centre.
