The work of the Eighth Central Pay Commission, which has drawn the attention of central  government employees and pensioners, has gained momentum. The Commission's visit to Chandigarh concluded on September 18th. At the meeting, various employee organizations and institutions presented their demands regarding salaries, allowances, pensions, and the fitment factor. The demand for a 3.25 fitment factor was particularly discussed.

During the discussion in Chandigarh, representatives from PGIMER and the Nurses Welfare Association raised several demands regarding the salaries and benefits of nursing staff. These included a 3.25 fitment factor, Level 10 entry pay for nursing officers, an increase in allowances, and pension-related demands. Currently, a 2.57 fitment factor was implemented under the Seventh Pay Commission.

Keeping in mind the rising inflation, house rent, health and education expenses as well as the nature of work of nursing staff, a fitment factor of 3.25 has been demanded.

Importantly, the 3.25 percent increase is not an official decision, but rather a demand made by employee representatives to the commission. Therefore, a final salary increase based on this cannot be determined yet. The actual salary increase will depend on the commission's recommendations and the subsequent government decision.

Meanwhile, the next important visit of the Eighth Central Pay Commission will be held in Bengaluru on October 7th and 8th, 2026. The Commission has issued an official notice for this meeting. Central government employee organizations, institutions, and other relevant organizations will have the opportunity to present their concerns to the Commission.

For this reason, the attention of employees and pensioners is now focused on the meeting in Bengaluru. In addition to the fitment factor, it will be important to see what demands emerge regarding pay scales, allowances, pensions, and other services and benefits.
