8th Pay Commission: Could entry salary rise to Rs 58,500? Learn the details here

Government employees are eagerly awaiting the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission. While their implementation may take another 18-20 months, discussions regarding the "fitment factor" have intensified.

Fitment Factor
In the 7th Pay Commission, a fitment factor of 2.57 was used, increasing the minimum basic salary from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000. Now, employee unions are demanding a fitment factor between 2.86 and 3.25.

New information on salary increases:
If a maximum fitment factor of 3.25 is assumed, the current basic salary could increase by ₹18,000 to ₹58,500. Employees are pushing for this increase, citing rising inflation and living costs.

The NC-JCM Draft Committee meeting is scheduled for February 25, 2026. Demands
related to salary, HRA, DA and pension have been considered.

The recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission for central government employees
are expected to be implemented from January 1, 2026. With the launch of the official website, the government is also welcoming public feedback.
