It has been nine months since the Eighth Pay Commission began its work. The Commission has another nine months to prepare its report. As a result, the demands of central government employees and pensioners have gained momentum.

An organization called Bharat Pensioners Samaj has placed some important demands before the Eighth Pay Commission. Given rising inflation and cost of living, it has demanded that pensioners receive a basic salary of ₹45,000 per month.

Demand for increasing DA every three months

Currently, central government employees and pensioners are paid Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) twice a year. However, given the rising inflationary pressure, the Bharat Pensioners Samaj has demanded that DA be revised or increased every three months.

Demand to merge 25% DA into basic

It has also been demanded that once DA reaches 25%, there should be a system to merge it into the basic pension or basic salary. This could help improve employee salaries and pensions in line with rising inflation.

Demand to increase the fitment factor to 3.83

The organization has demanded a fitment factor of 3.83 for government employees. If this proposal is accepted, basic salaries are likely to increase significantly.

Demand to increase family unit

Currently, the family unit limit is three. There have been calls to increase this to 5.2, and to include both parents. The Eighth Pay Commission was formed on November 3, 2025. The commission has been given 18 months to submit its report.
