100 Calls, Video Evidence, Blackmail Allegations, and an Arrest in 3 Days: The Mystery Behind Inspector Arun Rai’s Death in Jalaun Deepens

The death of Inspector Arun Kumar Rai, posted at Kuthaund police station in Jalaun, has become increasingly complex as new details emerge. Phone records, video calls, a female constable’s presence at the crime scene, and contradictory statements—all have added layers of mystery to the case. According to surveillance officials, more than 100 phone and video calls were exchanged between Inspector Arun Rai and female constable Meenakshi Sharma in the three days leading up to the incident.

Meenakshi reportedly kept recordings of several conversations. On the day of the incident, she travelled from Meerut to Kuthaund with constable Ankit. After dropping her off, Ankit left for his assigned police station. During questioning, Meenakshi said that when she entered the inspector’s room late at night, he was holding his service pistol. She claimed he shot himself upon seeing her. However, she failed to explain why she suddenly visited him at that hour.

Meenakshi admitted that she had a relationship with the inspector but denied all blackmail allegations. After the shooting, she phoned several people, and police later found that Inspector Rai had been in contact with over 10 inspectors and sub-inspectors—raising serious concerns within the department.

Key Events of the Night
At 9:16 pm on Friday, a gunshot was heard from Inspector Rai’s residence inside the police station campus. CCTV footage showed Meenakshi talking on the phone and walking toward his room at 9:15 pm. At 9:18 pm, she was seen sprinting out and shouting, “Sir, I have shot you,” before fleeing the spot. During this time, she made multiple phone calls.

When officers entered the room moments later, they found Inspector Rai lying inside a mosquito net, covered in blood. His 9mm service pistol lay near his abdomen, and the bullet had passed through his head. His wife, Maya Rai, arrived from Sant Kabir Nagar the next day and filed a murder FIR, alleging that Meenakshi either shot him herself or orchestrated the killing.

Arrest and Court Appearance
Police tracked and arrested Meenakshi on Sunday. She was presented in court, where she appeared in a tracksuit, showed no remorse, kept her face covered, and was sent to 14-day judicial custody in Orai District Jail. Her father, Vipin Sharma, and brother were present outside the court and claimed she was innocent.

SIT Formed to Probe Blackmail Angle
Jalaun SP Dr. Durgesh Kumar formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by CO Shailendra Vajpayee. The team includes Kuthaund’s new inspector, Ajay Pathak, and senior officers posted at the station. Their first task is to verify whether blackmail was involved.

Rumours within the department suggest Meenakshi was pressuring Inspector Rai to give her Rs 25 lakh for her wedding expenses. She allegedly threatened to send video recordings to his wife if he refused. Investigators confirmed that Meenakshi was on a phone call with the inspector just minutes before the shooting. CCTV also shows her entering the room while arguing—after which the shooting took place.

A Lavish Lifestyle Under Scrutiny
Meenakshi was known for her extravagant lifestyle. Her room had an air conditioner, she used three mobile phones including an iPhone, and she recently purchased jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh—allegedly funded by Inspector Rai. She also maintained frequent communication with multiple senior officers. The SIT is now probing whether these interactions were professional or extended into personal territory.

Two Critical Angles Under Investigation

  1. Wedding Pressure: Meenakshi’s wedding was scheduled for February 8, 2026, with her engagement held in November. She allegedly insisted that the inspector pay for her entire wedding.

  2. Digital Evidence: Police have recovered three mobile phones and four SIM cards. Data extraction and analysis are underway to establish communication patterns, threats, or any possible conspiracy.

The case remains unresolved, with conflicting statements, digital evidence, and departmental links making the investigation increasingly challenging.
