The Central Government is implementing several schemes for the benefit of citizens suiting different demographics including men, women and elderly as well as people living in rural areas. One such scheme that has proved to be highly beneficial for rural residents is the Property Ownership Scheme, also known as the Swamitva Scheme.

What is an ownership plan?

The SVAMITVA scheme, launched on the occasion of Panchayati Raj Day on April 24, 2021, aims to survey villages across India and create new mapping. This initiative comes under the Ministry of Panchayati Raj with the aim of integrating rural areas and solving property-related issues in a comprehensive and fair manner.

Under this scheme, individuals are provided legal ownership of property with title deeds and records of rights. Essentially, it provides a form of ownership rights over land. As a result of this scheme, property disputes have been reduced significantly, and accurate data has been generated for areas where land ownership was previously unclear.
