Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari shared some information regarding toll collection and said that the government is planning to abolish tolls soon. A new system will take its place. As announced by the Minister on X platform (formerly known as Twitter).
The new toll collection system will be satellite-based and is expected to be implemented soon, although no timeline has been given yet. Under this system, toll tax will be collected from users on the basis of the distance travelled on the highway. This toll tax will be automatically deducted from the banks.

FASTag system is used for toll payments. It is an electronic toll collection system that automatically pays toll tax at toll plazas. With its help, the waiting time at toll plazas has reduced to an average of 47 seconds, whereas the previous average was 714 seconds.
