WhatsApp Update: Every month WhatsApp closes the accounts of millions of Indian users. This happens when a complaint is received about a user committing fraud or breaking WhatsApp's rules. This messaging app of Meta company has stated in its recent India monthly report that from the beginning of April 2024 to April 30, 2024, it has closed about 71 lakh Indian accounts. They did this to prevent misuse and make their platform secure. The company has also said that if users continue to break their rules, they will take action to close the accounts in the future as well.

More than 71 lakh accounts banned

WhatsApp closed a total of 71 lakh 82 thousand accounts in April. Out of these, WhatsApp closed 13 lakh 2 thousand accounts even before any complaint was received. WhatsApp tries to stop wrong activities in advance. For this, it uses advanced technology, so that any irregularity can be identified. This technology finds signals that indicate that an account can be used for the wrong purposes.

Action was taken on 6 accounts on the complaint

It is worth noting that in April 2024, WhatsApp received a total of 10,554 complaints from users. These complaints were of many types, including account-related problems, appeals against the ban, app-related problems, and security concerns. However, action was taken on only 6 accounts based on these complaints. This shows that WhatsApp follows strict rules before closing any account.

The Indian accounts that WhatsApp has closed are part of their effort to comply with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) rules made in the year 2021. These rules ask companies to publish reports on what action they have taken in the face of user complaints and violations of the law. WhatsApp's latest report of June 2024 shows that it is taking strict steps to prevent wrongdoings with the help of user complaints and its advanced technology.
