Vodafone Idea (Vi) is India's third largest private telecom operator. This company is going to launch 5G network by March 2025. It will start first in Delhi and Mumbai and then in 17 more cities. Vi's goal is to provide 4G network to 90% of India's people by June 2025. The company's Chief Technology Officer (CTO) has told this to the Economic Times. Let's know in detail...
The company raised Rs 24,000 crore
As part of the revival plan, Vi has raised equity funding of Rs 24,000 crore, including Rs 18,000 crore from a follow-on public offer, TelecomTalk reported. Vi had earlier said the money would be used to improve its 4G network and roll out 5G networks.
Vi's CTO Jagbir Singh said that we are starting the 5G network a little slowly. We will first start 5G in Delhi and Mumbai and then in all the big cities of 17 states. Today about 103 crore people have 4G network which is 77%. Vi wants to increase this to 90%.
The company hopes that this will happen by June next year. He also said that Britain's Vodafone company and India's Aditya Birla Group, which are running the company together, will further improve the 4G and 5G network in 17 states. This will also include those people who keep moving from one place to another.
New towers being installed
Vi has installed a lot of new towers in the 900 MHz band. Earlier they had 55,000 towers and now they have more than 100,000 towers. In the next 9 months, they will install 50,000 more towers. The 900 MHz band is very good because it provides good network even in cities. Vi has said that there is no problem in installing towers and all tower companies will complete Vi's work by March.
