There will be no more scams with the common man, TRAI has made this preparation.

The biggest tension for the common man today is that of online scams or frauds. As everything from payments to booking train tickets became online for our convenience, new digital methods of fraud and scams kept getting invented. Many scams happened in the guise of telemarketers and even today scammers like this method the most. But now scammers are in trouble, because to save the common man, TRAI has prepared a new plan to control spam calls and messages.
TRAI, which regulates the telecom sector, has now prepared to crack down on spam calls and messages to stop scams. Tele marketing companies may also come under its purview.
What is TRAI's plan?
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is going to come up with a consultation paper very soon. This could be a framework to regulate telemarketers. It could have provisions to monitor telemarketing calls and SMS, which are generally the most popular way for scammers to scam. The effect of the existing rules to control spam calls and messages is not yet visible as it should have been.
Telecom companies are protesting
Telecom companies are criticizing this plan of TRAI. Companies like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea say that the rules that have been made to control spam currently exclude big stakeholders like OTT players and tele marketers. TRAI says that when it comes up with a consultation paper on this, it will take into account the views of all the parties and work to address their concerns.
The biggest concern of telecom companies is that they are just an infrastructure provider for tele marketing and OTT platforms, but to stop spam, additional rules, regulations and handling costs are being imposed on them.
55 billion SMS are sent every month
Every day 1.5 to 1.7 billion commercial messages are sent in India. Thus, a total of 55 billion commercial messages are sent to all telecom users in the country every month. In such a situation, detecting spam among these is a complex and expensive task.
