Tata Group's company Tata Elxsi and drone sector startup company Garuda Aerospace are soon going to develop indigenous technology for making drones. For this, both the companies have also signed an MoU. What is special about both the companies doing together?

According to the MoU, Tata Elxsi and Garuda Aerospace will set up a centre of excellence to work on the design and development of indigenous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones. With its help, work will be done on solutions such as UAV systems, drones, sensors, AI-driven analytics used in defence, agriculture and smart cities.

Agreement signed in Aero India 2025

This MoU between the two companies took place at the Aero India Show 2025. This biggest event of the aviation sector is held in Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka. According to this MoU, both the companies will focus on increasing the capability of drones with the help of AI and machine learning technology. Apart from this, they will also work on the target of reducing the energy consumption used in operating drones by 20% and saving more than 20% of the cost. India's focus is to become self-reliant in drone development and manufacturing. Both these companies will work on creating a domestic seller ecosystem, so that dependence on imports can be reduced.

This work will come to Tata Elxsi's share

In this deal, Tata Group company Tata Elxsi will focus on UAV design, engineering and testing. In this work, Tata Elxsi will benefit from its expertise in avionics, minimization of drones, safe communication, ground control systems and energy adaptation. The company will use its capabilities in avionics certification including DO-254 and DO-178C standards.

Garuda Aerospace will share its experience in the defense sector with Tata under this deal. As a manufacturer of drones (OEM), it will handle everything from getting orders to sales. Apart from this, it will work on missions like payload management, distribution of goods, agriculture and intelligence etc. through drones.
