SIM Card Rules: The rules related to SIM cards keep getting updated from time to time. The new rule related to mobile number portability (ninth amendment) of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will come into effect for crores of telecom users exactly two days later i.e. from July 1, 2024.

After the new rules are implemented, people will now have to wait for seven days to port their SIM card. Let us remind you that till now it used to take 10 days to port a mobile number.

This means that now after the implementation of the new rules, people's wait will be reduced by three days. Regarding these rules, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India says that the implementation of the new rules will help in curbing incidents like fraud.

SIM Card Rules: Rules changed

If the phone was stolen, users would immediately get a new SIM card by submitting a copy of the FIR, but now from July 1, if this happens to anyone, they will have to wait a little longer for a new SIM. In this case, there will now be a lock-in period of seven days, meaning you will have to wait for a long time of 7 days for a new SIM.

Apart from this, people who have recently swapped their SIM cards will also have to wait for seven days to port their mobile number. This means that if your mobile phone is stolen today, you will get a new SIM card after 7 days. The purpose behind doing this is to prevent SIM swapping fraud.

Many such cases have also come to light in which it was seen that after the SIM card was stolen, the same number was activated on another SIM card. After this, incidents like fraud were committed. New rules are being implemented to curb such incidents.
