OpenAI recently rolled out a new advanced voice mode for its paid ChatGPT users. This new mode enhances the audio capability of ChatGPT, allowing for better conversations with users. This new feature will initially be available to Plus and Teams subscribers, while enterprise and education customers will be able to use it from next week. The advanced voice mode not only brings new voices but also gives a new look to ChatGPT's voice mode and provides some customization.
New Voice Options
ChatGPT has expanded its voice options with five new voices: Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce, and Vale. This brings the total number of voice options to nine, which also includes Breeze, Juniper, Cove, and Ember. All of these voices are inspired by nature, as the Advanced Voice mode aims to make using ChatGPT more natural. This feature enhances speech patterns, tone, and pitch, allowing for more engaging and rich conversations.
New look
According to the company, ChatGPT's voice feature can now understand accents better, and its conversations have also become smoother and faster. OpenAI has also updated the visual representation of its voice mode, replacing the previously used black dots with a dynamic blue sphere.
Customization
OpenAI has also added two new customization features to the Advanced Voice Mode. The first is Custom Instructions, which allows for personalized responses, and the second is Memory, which gives ChatGPT the ability to remember previous conversations.
What's missing?
The most controversial Sky voice, which resembled Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson's voice, is still missing. The artificial intelligence company discontinued the Sky voice in May 2024 after the actress officially filed a lawsuit. OpenAI removed the voice after backlash, claiming it was not intended to mimic Scarlett Johansson's voice, even though staff tweets referenced the film Her. Her is a Hollywood film in which Johansson voiced an AI assistant.
