India's smartphones reach every corner of the world, Apple sets a record.

The country has exported smartphones worth Rs 1.55 lakh crore between the time period of April to January of the current financial year 2025. Which broke another record. Under the government's production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme, smartphones worth Rs 1.31 lakh crore were exported last year, whose record has been broken this year. Apart from this, the highest export was recorded in January 2025. In this, the highest export was of Apple phones.
This month, smartphones worth about Rs 25,000 crore were shipped abroad from India, which is 140 per cent more than in January 2024 last year. India, which was ranked 67th in terms of smartphone exports a decade ago, has now come to number 2. The country's Electronics and Information Technology Minister (MeitY) Ashwini Vaishnav has said that he expects smartphone exports to reach $20 billion or Rs 1.68 lakh crore during FY 2025. Exports in the 10 months till January are 56% higher than the smartphone exports of Rs 99,120 crore achieved by the industry in the same period of FY 24.
Apple played a major role.
Apple handsets contributed the most to smartphone exports. 70% was contributed by a few Apple iPhone vendors, while Tamil Nadu-based Foxconn contributed nearly half. Exports from Foxconn saw a 43% increase compared to the same period last fiscal.
Another 22% came from iPhone vendor Tata Electronics, which is ramping up production at its Karnataka unit after its acquisition from Wistron, while 12% came from Tamil Nadu-based Pegatron, in which Tata Electronics recently acquired a stake. Samsung contributed nearly 20% of total smartphone exports. The remaining came from domestic companies and merchandise exports.

The country, which was at number 67 in terms of phone exports a decade ago, has now come to number two. The PLI scheme launched in April 2020 has seen a boom in exports. Phone exports increased from Rs 23,390 crore in FY 21 to Rs 47,340 crore in FY 22, which is almost double. At the same time, by FY 24, exports had increased to Rs 1.31 lakh crore and that figure has reached 1.55 lakh crore in the current financial year.
