Telecom regulator TRAI took a big decision on Wednesday. TRAI has issued new rules to stop unwanted or spam calls that repeatedly trouble customers. In this, the responsibility of telecom companies like Jio, Airtel, Vodafone, and BSNL has been fixed. If these companies do not do their work properly, then they will have to pay a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh.

TRAI has clearly stated in the new rules that telecom companies will have to take strict measures to stop such spam and unwanted calls. Also, swift action will have to be taken on this.

You will have to tell the number of spam calls

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has instructed telecom companies that as per the new rules, they will have to disclose the complete number of spam calls received on any number. Not only this, if the companies do not do so, then they will also have to pay a fine of Rs 2 lakh to 10 lakh.

TRAI has ordered all telecom companies to analyze call and SMS patterns based on parameters such as unusually high number of calls, short duration of calls and ratio of incoming and outgoing calls. Based on this, they have been asked to provide the list and number of spam calls. Not only this, it will also make it easier to identify potential spammers in real time.

While amending the 'Telecom Commercial Communication Consumer Priority Rules', provisions have been made for fines on telecom companies. If the companies are not able to properly implement the provisions of this new regulation, then this fine will be imposed on them. According to the newly set standards, if telecom companies give wrong information, then a fine of Rs 2 lakh will be imposed for the first violation, Rs 5 lakh for the second violation and Rs 10 lakh per case for subsequent violations.

falling victim to fraud

About 90 percent of the Indian population uses mobile phones. While a large part of this population is still not technologically literate. A major reason for this is the digital divide. In such a situation, people are being made victims of fraud through unwanted and spam calls. The government is also concerned about this and it constantly works to make people aware. In such a situation, this decision of TRAI will give relief to the people in the coming times.
