Cybercriminals can issue fake SIM cards from your documents, DoT told you how to avoid it.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has warned crores of mobile users that cybercriminals can issue fake SIM cards in their name. SIM cards issued on the basis of fake documents can be used for cyber fraud, due to which you may have to face a big problem. The Department of Telecommunications has released a video on the social media platform and told people how to avoid this.

DoT said in its post released from its official X handle that cyber criminals can issue SIM cards by misusing your documents. These fake SIM cards can be used for cyber fraud. To avoid this, you should go to the Department of Telecommunications' Sanchar Sathi portal and check the SIM card issued in your name. If you feel that there is a number that you do not use and is active in your name, then you should report it immediately. For this, you have to visit the Sanchar Sathi portal and app launched by the central government.

How to find out about fake SIM

The Department of Telecommunications said in its video that for this you will have to visit the Sanchar Saathi (https://sancharsaathi.gov.in/) portal and remove the fake SIM card issued in your name by following the instructions given.

  • First of all you have to go to the web portal or app of Sanchar Saathi.
  • Here you will get the option of Know Mobile Connections in Your Name.
  • On clicking this option, a new window of TAFCOP will open for the users.
  • Enter your mobile number and captcha here.
  • After this, enter the OTP received on your number and log in to the portal.
  • Here you will get details of all SIM cards issued in your name.
  • If you see any fake number in your name, you can request to remove it by marking it as Not Required.
  • After the Telecom Department and telecom companies receive the request, action will be taken on the number issued in your name and it will be blocked.

keep these things in mind

  • Mask your document and share it for mobile number or any other banking or official work.
  • Especially use masked Aadhaar card so that your Aadhaar number is not misused.
  • If you feel that your document has been misused, you can immediately complain about it on helpline number 1930.
  • The Home Ministry has issued this helpline number to protect people from cyber crime.
