Tech tips: How can you send money without the internet, learn the step-by-step process!
Want to do UPI transactions but facing network issues? Well, nowadays most of us depend on UPI payments for money transfers. But transacting using the internet often puts us in a bind due to slow or 2G networks, which halts the UPI process online. However, there is an offline process to initiate UPI payments that many of us are not aware of. All you need to do is dial the USSD code '*99#' from your phone.
National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) launched the '*99# service' to process UPI services in banks in India. Users can avail of banking services by dialing *99# through their registered mobile number and transact money through the interactive menu displayed on the mobile screen.
NPCI offers various services under *99# service, which include interbank accounts to account send and receive funds, balance inquiries, and set/change UPI PIN, among other services. Here's the step-by-step process to initiate a UPI transaction using the USSD code '*99#' from your smartphone.
Step 1: Dial *99# from your registered mobile number which is linked to your bank account.
Step 2: A menu will pop up with the features available with your bank to get started.
Step 3: To send money, type 1 and tap on Send.
Step 4: Now choose from which account you want to send money. For example Mobile Number, UPI ID, Saved Beneficiary, and others. Type in the number and tap Send.
Step 5: If you have selected transfer via mobile number, enter the mobile number linked to the recipient's UPI account and tap on Send.
Step 6: Enter the amount you want to send and tap on Send.
Step 7: Now enter the remark for payment.
Step 8: Enter your UPI PIN to complete your transaction.
Step 9: Your UPI transaction will be completed offline.
You can also disable UPI services offline by dialing *99# from your registered phone number and following the instructions.
