The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 has reached its grand finale, with just one match left to decide the champion. In the crucial eliminator match held on March 13, Mumbai Indians, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, delivered a dominant performance against Gujarat Giants. Mumbai secured a resounding 47-run victory, booking their place in the final for the second consecutive time. Now, they will take on Delhi Capitals in the title clash on March 15.

Mumbai Indians’ Batting Blitz – Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt Shine

Mumbai Indians set the stage on fire with a mammoth total of 213/4 in 20 overs. The standout performer of the night was Hayley Matthews, who played a breathtaking knock of 77 runs off 50 balls, smashing 10 fours and 3 sixes. She received excellent support from Nat Sciver-Brunt, who blazed her way to 77 runs in just 41 balls at a strike rate of 186, hitting 10 boundaries and 2 sixes.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur also made a quickfire contribution, scoring 36 runs off just 12 balls at a staggering strike rate of 300. Her innings included 4 sixes and 2 fours, further strengthening Mumbai’s total.

Gujarat Giants Falter Under Pressure

Chasing a challenging target of 214, Gujarat Giants struggled from the outset. Star batter Beth Mooney was dismissed in the first over, setting the tone for a difficult chase. Harleen Deol (8 off 9 balls) fell early, and captain Ashleigh Gardner followed suit in the powerplay, becoming one of Hayley Matthews’ three victims.

Despite some resistance from Danielle Gibson (34 off 24 balls), Phoebe Litchfield (31 off 20 balls), and Bharti Fulmali (30 off 20 balls), Gujarat never found momentum. Mumbai’s bowlers kept striking at crucial intervals, ensuring Gujarat never posed a real threat.

Mumbai’s Bowling Attack Seals the Win

Hayley Matthews wasn’t just the star with the bat—she also delivered with the ball, picking up 3 wickets for 32 runs in 3.2 overs. Amelia Kerr chipped in with 2 wickets for 28 runs in her 4-over spell, while Shabnim Ismail (1/35) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (1/31) played their roles effectively.

With wickets tumbling regularly, Gujarat Giants were bowled out for 166 in 19.2 overs, ending their dream of a maiden WPL final appearance.
