The employees of the world-famous coffee company Starbucks have extended their ongoing strike in America to 4 more cities including New York. This announcement has been made by the union representing more than 10 thousand coffee shops.

American Starbucks employees are on strike demanding a salary hike. According to CNN, more than 2 lakh employees work in more than 10 thousand Starbucks stores. The striking Starbucks Workers United represents more than 10,500 employees in more than 500 stores. If the union's demands are not met, many Starbucks stores may remain closed even during Christmas.

In which cities is the strike taking place?

The five-day strike, which began on Friday, has closed Starbucks cafes in Los Angeles, Chicago and Seattle, and has now extended to New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia and St. Louis, Workers United said in a statement.

However, the company has said in a statement that the strike has not had any significant impact on the operations of the stores, as only a handful of US stores have been affected. The coffee company said, "Workers United's proposals call for an immediate 64 percent increase in the minimum wage of hourly partners and a 77 percent increase over the three-year contract period. This is not sustainable and not fulfillable."

Strike announced during holiday season

This strike by the workers union is happening at a time when the holiday season is going on across America. This strike has now spread to 10 cities of America, including Columbus, Ohio, Denver and Pittsburgh. Due to which the company's Christmas sales may be affected.
