Why did Shubman Gill do that thing in the Duleep Trophy which he should not have done against Bangladesh?

Team India has been announced for the first match of the Test series against Bangladesh. No major surprises have been taken in the team and most of the players are the same who were already likely to be selected. The team has been announced after the first round of Duleep Trophy matches, in which India-A had to face defeat at the hands of India-B. India-A was captained by Shubman Gill, who could not do anything special with the bat but still, his place in Team India is intact. But there is one aspect related to Shubman Gill in the selection of Team India and the Duleep Trophy match, which caught attention; his batting position was different in the Duleep Trophy match and will be different in Team India.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India had also asked the regular players of Team India to participate in the first round of Duleep Trophy and the reason for this was to prepare for the Test series starting on 19 September. The objective was that the players would get match practice and gain rhythm before going to the training camp in Chennai. In such a situation, it was also expected that the batsmen who are almost certain to be selected will play in the same position in which they play for Team India, but in the case of Shubman Gill, it was different, which has raised questions.

Last year, young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal entered Team India and was given the responsibility of opening with captain Rohit Sharma. Since then, Yashasvi has confirmed his place as an opener in the Test team. Before him, Shubman Gill was playing this role but he did not get much success. In such a situation, after Jaiswal became an opener, he started being fielded at number three, and for the last year, he has been playing in this position. Here too his start was not good but his bat performed well in the Test series against England. That is, he has currently stamped his seal on the number 3 position and he will play the same role in the Test series against Bangladesh.

So why did he open in the Duleep Trophy? Shouldn't he have come to bat at number three for his team here too? This question seems justified but no one knows the reason for this yet. Gill's scores in both the innings when he came to open were just 25 and 21. That means his struggle in opening continues. Still, why did he choose this position, which he is not going to get in the Test series?

If we look at it, one reason for this could be that he had to take up this responsibility to maintain balance in India-A's playing eleven, so that a strong team could come on the field. Another reason is that in Test cricket, there is not much difference in the circumstances while opening or batting at number three. Often the number three batsman comes to the crease after one of the openers gets out early. In such a situation, perhaps keeping this in mind, Gill has again taken up the responsibility of opening for only two innings.
