Why Shreyas Iyer Not Retained By KKR For IPL 2025: Last Thursday (31 October), all 10 teams announced the players to be retained for IPL 2025. While releasing the retention list, the most shocking decision was made by last season's (IPL 2024) champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). KKR released champion captain Shreyas Iyer, after which questions started arising as to why the Kolkata franchise did this? Now the team's CEO Vanky Mysore made a shocking revelation.
In his recent interview to RevSportz, Venky Mysore revealed why the franchise released captain Shreyas Iyer. The franchise's CI said that there were many factors for releasing Iyer, including money. Apart from this, he also mentioned that the real value of any player is known only in the auction. From these words of Venky Mysore, it became clear that Shreyas Iyer has been released because of money.
Not only this, many media reports also claimed that Iyer had demanded a lot of money from KKR for retention before IPL 2025. Let us tell you that Vanky Mysore also said that Iyer was the first name in his retention list, but due to many reasons he could not remain with the team.
In the interview, Vanky Mysore said, "He was number one on our list because he is the captain and we have to build everything around leadership and we picked him for that especially in 2022. Unfortunately, he was injured in 2023. When he came back, he got his captaincy back. We had made it clear that once you come, it will be yours. So he was an integral part. He did a great job."
Iyer has played IPL for 2 teams so far
Shreyas Iyer made his IPL debut in 2015 for Delhi Capitals. After this, he remained a part of Delhi till 2021 and then joined Kolkata Knight Riders. Now it will be interesting to see which is his third team in the tournament.
