There are still many months left for the start of the new season of IPL, but even before that discussions have started about it. The reason is the mega auction to be held this time. Although there is a lot of time in this mega auction as it usually takes place in December or January, but there is already a buzz about it. While there is a stir among the fans about what will happen to stars like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, MS Dhoni, Rishabh Pant in the next season, the franchise is waiting to know what the rules are going to be regarding retention in the next auction and also what will be the salary purse for the players. Regarding this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has called a meeting with the team owners at the end of July.

According to the Cricbuzz report, BCCI has called all the franchise owners for a meeting on 30-31 July. This meeting will be held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. In this meeting, the rules of the mega auction before the new season will be discussed. The most important among these is retention i.e. how many players the franchise will be able to retain before the auction. For the last several years, this number has been only 4 for the mega auction, which is now being demanded to be changed.

Most discussion about retention

The report states that the BCCI has asked the franchise owners about their views on this in the last several weeks and has received different answers. Most franchises believe that the number of retentions should be increased from 4 to 8 so that the identity of the franchise and the fans can be retained by retaining as many players as possible. At the same time, some are not in favor of this. Apart from retention, the other issue is the 'Right to Match' card. That is, if another franchise wins the released player of a franchise in the auction, then the old franchise can get him back by using this card. This rule was implemented a few years ago but was then removed.

The earnings of the giants will increase

Not only this, if the salary purse (auction purse) is increased this time as in every year, then the income of many players is going to increase. There is a fixed auction purse for every franchise, under which they have to retain the players and then buy the players. During the last auction, this auction purse was Rs 100 crore. It is believed that this time it can be increased to Rs 120 crore.

Now this will not only help the franchise to spend more in the auction but will also increase the earnings of those players who will be retained by the teams. According to the report, till now the salary cap of the player who was number 1 out of 4 retentions was 16-17 percent, that is, the player who will be retained first out of 4 players will get 16-17 crore rupees. Now if it increases to 120 crores, then the salary of players like Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, whom the franchise has been keeping as number-1 retention, can increase.
