India won the Champions Trophy 2025 title by defeating New Zealand. Although the entire team contributed to writing the script of India to become the champion, Varun Chakraborty's story was a bit different. When the team was announced for the Champions Trophy, Varun Chakraborty's name was not on it. His entry into the team was done in the last minutes. Seeing his strong performance with the ball in the home white ball series against England, the Indian team management showed faith in him and included him in the team in place of Yashasvi Jaiswal. Now that the Champions Trophy is over, Varun Chakraborty has completely lived up to the faith shown in him.

Varun Chakravarthy may not have the Golden Ball trophy for taking the most wickets in the tournament, but he has definitely been the most successful bowler for his team. His 7 wickets against New Zealand have contributed a lot to his success.

Varun was India's most successful bowler

Varun Chakravarthy and Mohammed Shami were the two most successful bowlers for India in the Champions Trophy 2025. Both took 9 wickets each. But Varun Chakravarthy's performance graph was better than Shami because he played 2 matches less than Shami. That means while Shami took 9 wickets in 5 matches, Varun Chakravarthy took 9 wickets in just 3 matches.

Varun became the third Indian to do so

Varun Chakraborty did not get a chance to play in the first two matches on the pitch of Champions Trophy 2025. He played his first match as the last match of the group stage which was against New Zealand. Varun Chakraborty spread his spin and took 5 wickets for 42 runs in 10 overs in the group stage match against New Zealand. With this, he became the third bowler after Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami to take 5 wickets in the Champions Trophy.

Did wonders in the semi-final against Australia

Varun Chakravarthy's next feat was seen in the semi-final match against Australia, where he dismissed India's biggest enemy Travis Head on the very first ball of his spell. In the semi-final against Australia, Varun Chakravarthy took 2 wickets for 49 runs in 10 overs.

New Zealand got trapped in the final too

In the final of the Champions Trophy, once again New Zealand faced each other and this time Varun Chakravarthy took 2 wickets for 45 runs in 10 overs. Varun Chakravarthy gave the first blow to New Zealand in the final by dismissing opener Will Young. Apart from this, he took another wicket of Glenn Phillips.

Took 7 out of 9 wickets against New Zealand

If we look at Varun Chakravarthy's overall performance in the Champions Trophy 2025, he took 9 wickets in 3 matches at an average of 15.11, out of which he took 7 wickets only against New Zealand. Varun remained just 1 wicket away from New Zealand's fast bowler Matt Henry, who took the most wickets in the tournament.
