This 58-year-old world record of Bapu Nadkarni has not been broken till today!
Indian spin bowlers have always dominated world cricket. Many records in world cricket have been made by Indian spinners. Among them, a record is registered in the name of Indian left arm spinner Bapu Nadkarni.
Bapu Nadkarni holds the world record for throwing 21 consecutive maidens. 58 years ago on this day i.e. January 12, 1964, Bapu Nadkarni made the English batsmen yearn for one run each at the Corporation Stadium in Madras (now Chennai). He had bowled 131 dot balls in a row.
However, at the time when the 8-ball over was over, South African off-spinner Hugh Tayfield did not allow any batsman to score runs for 17.1 overs in 1956-157. During this he had bowled 137 balls dot. Thus, Indian spinner Bapu Nadkarni holds the record for most consecutive maidens, while the record for throwing the most dot balls is held by Hugh.
