There will be a delay in the announcement of Team India for the Champions Trophy, BCCI will now put this demand in front of the ICC
The Champions Trophy will begin from February 19 under the hosting of Pakistan. The ICC has set January 12 as the deadline for announcing the squad for this tournament. But the BCCI can delay it. According to media reports, it was expected that Team India's chief selector Ajit Agarkar would follow the ICC's instructions and announce the team on time. But according to the latest information, the BCCI can now ask for some time for this. However, the Indian team can be announced within two to three days for the 5-match T20 series against England.
For any of its tournaments, ICC usually asks all the teams to announce their provisional squads 4 weeks in advance. Then it also gives time for changes in it. But for the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan and Dubai, it had asked for the squads from all the 8 teams 5 weeks in advance. They were asked to submit their team list by 12th January.
But according to the report of Cricbuzz, BCCI can delay it by a week. It will request ICC to give it some time to announce the Indian team's squad. It is expected that Team India will be announced for the Champions Trophy by 18-19 January. Apart from England, no other team has announced its squad yet.
Before the Champions Trophy, the Indian team will play a 5-match T20 series against England at home from January 22. A 3-match ODI series is to be played from February 6. Team India has not been announced for these two series yet. According to the report, the team list for the T20 series will be released in two to three days. The players who were fielded against Bangladesh are expected to play in this series. There may be a slight delay in the announcement for the ODI series.
These players can get a chance
Arshdeep Singh can be seen leading the pace attack in the T20 series, while Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj have been rested for this. At the same time, senior bowler Mohammad Shami is also unlikely to play in it. However, he can return to international cricket after about 1.5 years from the ODI series. His selection for the Champions Trophy is almost certain.
Shami recently participated in the domestic ODI tournament Vijay Hazare Trophy on behalf of Bengal. According to the report, Shami has got BCCI's Center of Excellence clearance. If this has not happened yet, then it can be received in a few days. Apart from him, Washington Sundar and Yashasvi Jaiswal can be seen in the ODI series, while Nitish Kumar Reddy will be seen only in T20 for now.
