The one who was dropped from Team India after 2 matches, is now working in SBI, had made his debut against Pakistan
There is no dearth of talent in Indian cricket. But, there are only a few players who reach Team India. They cross its threshold and enter. And, even among them, there are a few who stay in Team India. The player we are going to talk about did come in Team India but was dropped after playing only 2 matches. And, once he was dropped, he never returned to the team. We are talking about Gyanendra Pandey, who has been a part of Team India of Ganguly and Dravid.
Gyanend Pandey, who played domestic cricket from UP, made his debut in first-class cricket in 1988-89. In 1997-98, he led UP to the Ranji Trophy finals under his captaincy. During this time, his performance was also excellent. Considering the same ability as a left-handed spin all-rounder, he was selected for Team India in 1999.
Gyanendra Pandey was selected in Team India in 1999 for the Pepsi Cup tournament against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. He played his first match on 24 March 1999 in Jaipur. After this, he played his second match in the same tournament against Pakistan in Mohali on 1 April 1999. After these two matches played in the Pepsi Cup, Gyanendra Pandey was dropped from the team, after which he never got a chance in Team India again.
He scored only 4 runs in the 2 matches he played in international cricket. That means his average was only 4. Gyanendra Pandey came to Team India as an all-rounder. But, his all-round performance failed in 2 matches. Gyanendra Pandey, who failed in batting, also failed to take wickets with the ball.
Including First Class and List A, Gyanendra Pandey has played 199 matches in domestic cricket, in which he has taken 254 wickets and scored more than 7000 runs. After leaving cricket, Gyanendra Pandey has also tried his career in coaching. Currently, he works as a PR agent at SBI Bank.
