If children progress in any field, then parents get happiness from it. But, the story of Marufa Akhtar, who is representing her country Bangladesh in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024, is not like this. She has entered the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 as the hope of the country, but the big question is whether her mother is happy with this. Probably not, because in an interview, Marufa herself said that her mother still does not like her playing cricket.

Bangladesh's medium pacer Marufa Akhtar comes from an ordinary family. Her father is a farmer and her mother is a housewife. She is the youngest of her 4 siblings. When Marufa aspired to become a cricketer, her parents did not support her. Today, even though she has become a well-known name in the Bangladesh women's cricket team, her mother still wishes that her daughter should quit cricket.

Mother still doesn't want me to play cricket- Marufa.

In an interview given to Business Standard, Marufa Akhtar said that her mother still does not like her playing cricket. She wants her to stay at home like other girls. Her mother did not approve of it but her daughter was determined to become a cricketer, so she did. In this journey, Marufa also got full support from her elder brothers.

Marufa Akhtar has been fond of sports since childhood. In her childhood, she used to play cricket with boys. Many times the boys would refuse to play football with her. They would also tease her. In such a situation, when Marufa's elder brother Al Amin Islam saw her passion for sports, he explained to her and said that if you have to play, then play cricket. There is a risk of breaking legs in football. Marufa followed the advice of her elder brother, who enrolled her in a local academy, from where Marufa started learning the basics of cricket.

Bangladesh's hopes in T20 World Cup

Even though she had to rebel a bit against her mother, with the support she got from her brother, Marufa was able to fulfill her dream. 19-year-old Marufa Akhtar has played 26 T20 matches for Bangladesh so far, in which she has taken 18 wickets. Bangladesh will also expect a better performance from Marufa in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024.
