Cricket has gradually made its presence felt in many countries. Now the Cricket World Cup is played in America as well, while cricket is being played in many countries in Africa and Europe as well, where a lot of runs are being scored. But in Australia, the stronghold of cricket, there is a ground where only one men's international match was played and only 1 run was scored in that too. Which ground is this and why did this happen, we will tell you later but first let us tell you who scored that 1 run? This special record is in the name of India's former explosive opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth, whose birthday is today.

Srikkanth, who played nearly 200 matches for Team India for almost a decade, was born on 21 December 1959 in Madras (now Chennai). He entered Team India in November 1981 at the age of just 22. He made his place in Team India through the ODI format and then made his Test debut just two days later. After this, Srikkanth remained a part of Team India for the next 11 years, where at one time he had the highest number of ODI runs and centuries to his name.

The ground where only 1 run was scored

Now let's talk about the ground where that match was played in which only 1 run was scored. This ground was Australia's Ray Mitchell Oval ground, which was in the city of Mackay. This ground got the opportunity to host international cricket for the first time in 1992 and that opportunity was also of the World Cup. Here the league stage match was to be played between India and Sri Lanka but due to rain this match could not start on time. Even when it started, this match was reduced to 20-20 overs. Team India was batting first and Kapil Dev came out to open with Srikkanth. No run came on the first ball of the over, while Srikkanth took one run on the second ball.

Just here the rain started once again, which did not stop and the match was cancelled. In this way the match ended with just 1 run in just 2 balls. Since then no international match in men's cricket has been played on this ground. However, international cricket returned here in 2021 and 3 ODIs were played between the women's teams of India and Australia, while in 2024 2 T20s were played between the women's teams of Australia and New Zealand.

Srikanth's tremendous record

In this way, this special record was registered in the name of Srikkanth. Not only this record, but Srikkanth also had a special record in his name at the time of retirement in 1992. Srikkanth had scored 4091 runs in 146 ODI matches, which included 4 centuries and 27 half-centuries. At the time of Srikkanth's retirement, these were the highest runs and the highest number of centuries in ODIs for India. Apart from this, Srikkanth also scored 2062 runs with the help of 2 centuries in 43 Tests. Srikkanth was also the opener of the Kapil Dev-led Indian team that won the World Cup for the first time in 1983.
